Robert J Carter (born 1954, Toronto, Canada)
A 1987 Graduate of Fine Arts from Emily Carr College of Art in Vancouver, Robert has always expressed himself artistically. It began at an early age, starting in public school and then going forward to Central Technical School for Art in Toronto where he engaged in a five year program consisting of various painting techniques, sculpture and ceramics. He moved to Vancouver in 1979 to pursue a career in Advertising. He soon became disillusioned with Commercial Art and decided he needed to expand on his Fine Art background and immediately enrolled at Emily Carr.
Robert, an artist who thinks heavily in color and movement draws inspiration from the variety of things he interacts with in everyday life and enjoys expressing them with dream like images filled with graphic colour. His expressions come alive in the various media he engages in his work, whether it be painting (oil, acrylic, watercolour), ceramics, sculpture or video. His unique perspective of showcasing his work allows the viewer to create their own point of view for what they see and enjoy in his work.
When Robert sits down to paint he explores his subconscious by flowing freely between the objective and non-objective to the abstract/expressionism always having a keen ability to communicate it in his work.
Painting and Sculpture remain an important component of Robert’s ability in expressing himself.
